Hey guys,

that's a strange one: I own a lockfree iPhone which worked flawlessly until tonight where suddenly from one second to the next "no service" appeared instead of vodafone. I restarted - no luck. 20 Minutes later it came back with vodafone again but after another five minutes it went again.

I checked with another phone - there was no problem with the network.

Anybody with similar experiences?

Sounds like you're having something crash on you. Have you restarted?

Otherwise I'd try restoring and see if that works

Same thing happened to me. I thought the phone locked. But I tried my sim on my other handset and it still would not work.

I went back to my operator. Turned out that my phone had run into negative balance (on prepaid) and they had disabled my connection. This is because iphone automatically turned on edge and ate up all my credit balance on prepaid.

It works now after I got it recharged.

Hope it helps

I get the no sercive thing sometimes. try going into your setting/carriers and make sure it's on your cell provider. For some reason it goes to automatic or doesn't have one checked at all.. that works for me 100%!

I had a 1.0.2 upgraded to 1.1.1 and now the signal is all over the place changing from 4 bars to no service all the time. Many drop calls.

Bear in mind. This is a 1.1.1 upgraded phone activated and jailbroken with Independence and unlocked with AnySIM.

I have read thousand of posts and althought it is still not very well documented, it seems the upgrade/downgrade of the baseband makes the part of your phone that dials and receives cell signals unstable and corrupted.

So, yes, it is possible to have a 1.1.1 upgraded phone, activated, and unlocked with a baseband that is unstable and causing reception issues. Nothing wrong with your carrier.

Have found a few others that are having the same problems, and the advice ? Wait for a virginizer that puts the phone in its originally state (locked) and fix the unstable baseband.

I've had the same for the last few months, I'm in UK on T-Mobile. It seems to only happen on Fridays/Saturdays though! bizarre!!

Any ideas?

I also lose all speaker sounds whilst no service is displayed....

I also get the same problem.. I get no signal when the iphone goes into locked/sleep mode. I have full signal when I unlock and see display. All calls go to voicemail when the iphone is in locked/sleep mode – so annoying! My phone is on firmware OTB 1.1.1, unlocked using T- Mobile UK.

Does anyone have a fix for this please?

Thanks

Mine is doing exactly the same now! I only have a signal when the phone is not in locked mode! as soon as I lock it there's no signal or most of the time what looks like 1 bar but infact there's no service! also on T-Mobile UK 1.0.2, the iphone is from August.

Any ideas?

If you can't get jailbreakme.com to work, you can do it the long way http://www.hacktheiphone.com/111/iphone_step1_windows.html or keep trying the jailbreakme.com (http://www.hacktheiphone.com/111/iphone_step_1.html) trhen if you want to upgrade to 1.1.2 you can follow these steps http://www.hacktheiphone.com/112/iphone_update_112_unlock_windows.html which I trying right now....

Hey, I had a similar problem and figured 'd offer my 2 cents. Shortly after trying to put ROMs on my iphne I reallized there was no ATT and no bars at the the top left. Itthen turned to no service. I then went to settings>general>reset>reset network settings. It should take a sec and then restart. It worked for me, hope this helps.

i think i've fixed my "no service" issue which i've been dealing with for a very long time. These were the following steps i took:

** NOTE: this may look like a step by step instructions, but it's not. These steps are for people who have done all of this b4 or have previous experiences unlocking and jailbreaking. the main site i will refer u to is listed below.

http://www.iclarified.com/tutorials/iphone/index.php

1a.) uninstall iTunes version higher that 7.5
b.) delete the "iTunes Library.itl" file located in C:\Documents and Settings\"username"\My Documents\My Music\iTunes
c.) download and install iTunes 7.5 - if u do not do the sub-step above, iTunes will not start.

NOTE: i think using iTunes 7.6 is what caused my headaches, but since i'm not a programmer i'm not sure.

2a.) using iDemocracy 3.0, erase baseband and then place into DFU mode (from the things i've read, i do not trust Ziphone)
b.) restore to 1.0.2
c.) repeat step 2a - restore to 1.1.1
d.) repeat step 2a - restore to 1.1.2
e.) repeat step 2a - restore to 1.1.3
f.) repeat step 2a - restore to 1.1.4
** u do NOT have to jailbreak or activate in between any of these sub-steps above.

** NOTE all of those sub-step of 2 might not be necessary but i did it out of paranoia. u might be able to just jump from 1.1.1 to 1.1.4.

3a.) using pwnage tool to jailbreak your iphone - in your advance tab of the pwnage tool:
- check "enable baseband update" box
- check "update bootloader" box
- check "upgrade to 4.6" box
- make sure to the "autodelete bootneuter.app" box is NOT checked

** finish all the required steps for the pawnage tool

4.) using the bootneuter app in your iphone, downgrade bootloader to 3.9, neuter and unlock.

I was having this same problem. I called AT&T on my home phone and they said to take it to an ATT store...that was helpful. At the ATT store (my friend works there...) we tried a couple different things. the one that worked was switching out and in an old NON WORKING SIM card in and out of my iPhone. It didn't work until about the 5th time. then when i put my WORKING SIM card back in my iPhone it went to "Searching..." the it started working perfectly normal. Hope this helps!!

I had the same problem....so I deleted my latest apps (vWallpaper, etc.) rebooted about 10 times, took out and cleaned the SIM, passed the phone through ZiPhone (I am at 1.1.4), then read this thread.

I just ran out of prepaid balance.....paid up and came back right......

Really feeling foolish.

HANG ON, service is gone again.............

I has the same problem with my iphone going into a no service state on my 3g... I used the Pwn'dTool and the first time it came up with that error, and when i set up the .iswp, i didn't select to unlock it cause im on at&t...So after re-downloading and doing it again, it seemed to correct the issue and everything is fine now...

I have been to hell and back with this one, and the sphincter at the end of my tailbone is still twitching. I did all that with going back to 7.5 iTunes and erasing the file....I wound up losing the library, which I later recovered from the Recycle bin......Got a hang up somewhere in the baseband erase and the phone went into an endless loop. No way to get out of it so I just let it loop until the battery died. After many, many attempts I was able to get the phone back to it's original (No Service) condition and am just sitting here thinking while charging the battery. In Settings, Carrier, I have a check mark by Automatic, but have no listed carrier. My wife's phone, exact same as mine, shows the three local carriers. My phone simply does not see the carriers.

Any ideas?
