do I need to relock

all my attempts to unlock the phone following a variety of the procedures outlined here and else have failed to unlock, mostly with one of the the following errors :

1. unable to find bytes to pach (sic)
or
2. failed at the AT+CLCK="PN",0,"00000000"
ERROR

as a result my phone is still locked.

do I still need to go through the relock process ? did my modem firmware get updated before the failure in above steps ?
