View Full Version : Faint audio problem

So I followed Mark's superb instructions and I managed to unlock my brand new, week 38, 7S7 iPhone. Everything is working perfectly except that sure enough, I am getting the faint audio with the built in speaker. It is virtually useless.

Mark has just posted a statement on his website to the effect that it is an Apple hardware problem affecting even unlocked phones. He recommends taking it back to Apple. If this is confirmed (and I will be interested to see if the general (unlocked) community begins to complain of this), then "bringing it back" presents a problem: its unlocked.

Admittedly I am using an AT&T SIM from my corporate Blackjack, so that alone isn't going to give me away. But as soon as they run the serial number I assume they will know the phone has not been activated. And they will tell me to get lost. I could restore it to its virgin state I guess, but unless I then activate with AT&T (which of course I do not want to do), I cannot very well bring back a phone that I have "never activated". How would I know there is an audio problem...?

Any ideas? Mark, are you sure it is an Apple hardware issue?

Well, I just unlocked an iPhone purchased on 9/20 (using the directions on this site), and I don't have any audio issues at all. Tested with ear to phone, with wired earpiece and mike, and on speaker. Volume and clarity are right on and comparable to my Blackberry 8800.

So... it seems to be a HW issue.

I am not sure that means its a hardware issue. Or rather, a hardware issue alone. Yes, there are plenty of unlocked phones that do not have this problem, but, I have not heard of ANY reports of this problem in the wider (unlocked) community. Has anyone else?

So, I don't know how, but the faint audio problem is gone. Have not reset or reflashed or re-anythinged it. But, it works. Now, it could be louder, but so could my wife's iPhone and it is bone stock
