Piscal Technologies, a developer of mobile software, is suing Apple in a Delaware federal district court, claiming that the graphic renderer in the iPhone and iPod touch infringes on several of their patents. They say the technology Apple used to speed up zooming and panning for images, documents and websites was borrowed from them by Apple without their permission. <!--break-->

Picsel lists several big-name clients to back up their credibility, including KDDI, Motorola, Nokkia, NTT DoCoMo, Palm, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, and Sharp, all of which they say license the technology.

They are asking the court to order Apple to compensate them for the damages in the amount of three times what they would normally grant in similar cases.

If this was really true why didn't they notice way before the iphone 3G came out, or even when the phone was demoed? I hate companies that do this just for the money. I can sort of understand the people who do it over the ads, I mean just look at the old ads compared to the new ones, but this is just to sketchy. I may be wrong, but Apple developed the same technology for their notebooks as well so if this was true how come they aren't suing for that too?

"I hate companies that do this just for the money."

Welcome to Apple.

"was borrowed from them by Apple without their permission."

Is that the friendly legal term for stealing?

@Teoyaomqui, he wasn't actually referring to Apple, but the other 2-bit company.

I was being sarcastic. Apple does it too.
