Ok, I have a 2g iPhone, and made the mistake of updating it to 2.2.1 before anything else. Now from what I have been able to find, I should still be able to use yellowsn0w to unlock my phone. The problem is, I cant find any way to do that. I have downloaded the yellowsn0w app, as well as, the BossSettings pannel. Following the directions, I still get the non supported sim, and emergency calls only screens. Im I screwed?
Thanks,
Phillip

If you updated to 2.2.1 through itunes and your baseband is 02.30.03 then you cant unlock your phone with this baseband.:(

Well, I run quickpwn, and tell it to unlock and everything, but when I put my Tmo sim in the phone, it gives me only emergency access and nothing else.
So, am I being retarded, or is there some magical thing that I need to do? Do I need to qucikpwn with my Tmo sim in?
Thanks for all the replies so far.

if i'm understanding you updated to the newest baseband without making the custum boot things so i don't think your able to unlock your phone at this current time they don't have a unlock for it yet if you dind't make those custom boot things

And thats what I am afraid of, but...

Just update to firmware 2.2.1 through iTunes and run QuickPWN in order to jailbreak and unlock your iPhone.
This is from the QuickPwn developers site, so... based on that, I should be able to do this, and I'm just missing something.
Is there anyone out there that has a 2g and they have updated then unlocked? If so, how did you do it?

When I have the AT&T sim in the phone, it still wants to be activated. I know that QuickPWN is doing the jailbreak portion, as I do have the Cydia and Installer apps after the update. Hell, even the last time I ran it, I had it change the boot screens, and that all works.
The only problem is when I have the Tmo sim in, I only get the emergency calls only screens.

DeathLok30040..........did you solve your issue ??? ..... as I heard, so far there is no unlocking and Jailbreaking solution out there as Dev Team still working on it, maybe its resolved now but I am not aware of it......... I did the same thing tried to upgrade my 2G to 2.2.1 using quickpawn but that didnt work and my phone shows only iTune logo & I was in trouble for 10 hours so what I did I restore my phone with 2.2 and jailbreak using quickpawn, that's the only solution I know.......... if any one else knows that how to successfully unlock and jailbreak with 2.2.1....plese please let us know.

were you able to downgrade your iphone? i read somewhere that once the baseband is updated to the latest one, there's no current way to downgrade it.

Absolutely it works, infact my cousin did the same mistake upgraded his phone to 2.2.1 and was thinking his unlocked phone will worked, but it didnt and then he stuck, came to me and I did restore his phone back to 2.2.
All you need to do is...
1 - Download iTune 7.5 (as downgrade will not work on latest iTune)
2 - Download 1.1.4 version.
3 - Put your phone DFU mode
4 - Restore your phone with 1.1.4 (press SHIFT key and hit Restore and browse 1.1.4)
5 - Use ZiPhone GUI v3.0 (Hit Do It All)
6 - Download 2.2 version
7 - Put your phone in DFU Mode again.
8 - Restore your phone with 2.2.(press SHIFT key and hit Restore and browse 2.2)
9 - Use Quickpawn to unlock and jailbreak your phone ( I am assuming you would have BL-39 and BL-46 Files)
10 - Once you are done with Quickpawn you are Golden.
Enjoy with your iPhone :)

Mac OS 10.5.6
Macbook pro
Itunes 8.0.2
First generation iPhone 8 gigs
I tried quick pwn and it jailbroke but did not unlock - I got the emergency phone number signal.
I did the full pawnage in expert mode: jailboken and unlocked - put in my international sim card (UK phone number) and it works like a charm.
It may be my imagination but when I do the full pwn in expert mode, my phone seems to work better - volume is louder, it's faster on wifi.
this happened to me with upgrade 2.2 as well and I was only able to jailbreak and unlock in expert mode
just restore your iPhone and follow the tutorial.

First of all... you're not the only 1 who's stuck in this boat. After upgrading to 2.2.1 via iTunes I CANNOT get QuickPwn or Pwnage to unlock my phone to use my O2 Pay & Go SIM. This has been working fine for the last 7 months and now, suddenly, poof!
There seems to be a lot of confusion out there in reviewing this (myself included) but here's the situation.
* I have an original 2G iPhone from Day 1 in the USA.
* I moved to the UK and had to cancel my AT&T contract.
* Initially I just used the iPhone as a Touch, but sometime last year when 2.0 came out, and O2 started supporting Pay&Go plans, I tried Pwnage and it worked. Longer discussion here (http://www.flickr.com/groups/macintosh/discuss/72157606098748518/) on Flickr.
* Oddly, I'm not sure what I did with Pwnage because at some point after I got my UK SIM working, the Installer and Cydia apps were gone. I didn't want them anyway, just wanted to be able to use O2.
* I was able to successfully upgrade via iTunes a couple of times all the way to 2.2 without any issues and didn't need to rerun Pwnage.
* Now however, after upgrading to 2.2.1 in iTunes, iTunes is giving an unsupported SIM message. I've tried QuickPwn and Pwnage now a few times. Tried reverting back to an earlier version. But seem to be stuck.
Clearly, I'm missing something and there's a lot of potential places it could be.
1) Most people seem to agree... A 2G iPhone should be upgradeable to 2.2.1 and Pwned without worrying about the baseband. Others refute this but I'm pretty sure they're wrong and the limitations only apply to iPhone 3G. Right?
2) Is anyone else having this issue? Has anyone that was stuck, now got it working?
3) Should I be Pwning the 2.2.1 package or Pwning 2.2 and then upgrading to 2.2.1 via iTunes? There are mixed messages out there?
4) Could the Pwning I did back when 2.0 came out be causing some issues with Pwning it again? Is there something I need to do to specifically re'virginize' my phone?
5) What is the difference between Restore Mode and DFU Mode? How can I tell if I have it in the right one? There is talk about DFU not working on 10.5.6 but I can't really tell.
Any help here is really appreciated as I'm not back stuck with a Touch and everyone using my iPhone number to get in touch.

Again here is an answer, as I did the same mistake with my phone and I was successfully revert it back to 2.2..... just follow the instructions.

Mmmm.... After reading a lot about Ziphone I'm quite reluctant to use it. Seems like it more permanently affects aspects of the bootloader whereas Pwnage is reversible. Others claim this should be doable without Ziphone so I'm curious to see what they have to say...

Not sure what exactly I did but it's back working again...
Seemed to be a combination of:
- restore with standard FW 2.0.2
- quickpwn to 2.2.1
- Create custom package w/ Pwnage for 2.2.1 and restore it via iTunes
- Suddenly either SIM is accepted again although I still need to restore from a backup to get all my settings and everything right.

I have not gotten any errors while restoring it went thru cool the 300 times I've tried this week... My major concern is that i cant manage to open Quickpwn... Somebody please help!
