Rumor: AT&T Prepping $99 8GB iPhone 3GS to Compete with DROID

This has yet to be confirmed, but could be really interesting. Two sources have now stated that AT&T (and through them, probably Apple) have stated that a $99 8GB iPhone 3GS may be in the works. One source has stated that this is their way of combating the DROID fever that's been building with the competing device on the horizon.

right that makes much more since than beefing up there 3g network!

That does make sense. The loss in revenue for each handset purchased will be significantly lower than the cost of beefing up their network. Also the fact that beefing up the network is something that, while being a continual process anyway, takes a LONG time to accomplish.
