Netflix Not Offering Video Streaming After All

According to a Q and A session with Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, Reuters reports that Netflix has no intention of bringing streaming video to the iPhone. Netflix has instead decided to expand their horizons in the areas of TV-based business and consumer electronics.

Reuters: Any plans to work in partnership with Apple and the iPhone?
Hastings: it's something that's likely to come over time. But nothing in the short term. (With) movie watching, we are not focused on mobile yet, but (instead) on the TV, on Blu-ray and on the video game consoles. We will get to mobile eventually, including the iPhone.

The news contradicts prior reports that suggested live video streaming was soon on the way to the iPhone.

Hey, that's disappointing. What's the point of a Netflix app, then?

Netflix doesn't want to wast money developing an app knowing that Apple would surely reject it. A Netflix app would kill iTunes movie rentals. Apple's App Store stranglehold is hurting the consumer yet again..

I'm still waiting for the hulu app. That way hopefully i can watch cable shows on the iphone. There were rumors a few months ago it was in the works. Netflix app would be nice too.
