Google Maps for the iPhone Now Including Ads
Submitted by Chris Barylick on October 5, 2009 - 1:20pm.
Even though Google Maps on the iPhone is free, it's still Google and Google is in the business of selling ads. Per The Apple Blog, Google is now serving up sponsored ad links with its Google Maps app for the iPhone.
It may not be your thing, but it's something you'll have to deal with.

iPhone ads
The real trouble is that we have all become hooked on the free things they provide, blithely ignoring the advertisement within them or the way they generate the ability to advertise better.
With all businesses what happens when revenue declines or something does it better? It will eventually happen. Don't become so enamored with what Google provides that we forget that there are many more services that provide the same thing. Perhaps not identical. For instance....DropBox does far better for document storage then Google Docs. There is DimDim for free web conferencing and collaboration.
Look. Google isn't inventing anything. They innovating. Taking what we know and changing it or enhancing it. Nothing more.
All in all though this is why I am moving off of Google Applications. Its getting to be too much of what I do and I am not liking it. The only Google feature I use any more is Calendar and once I can find something that meets that need it will be done too.
