Dev Team Upgrades Jailbroken 3GS From 3.0 To 3.1
Submitted by Edward Kirk on October 2, 2009 - 12:56am.
The iPhone Dev Team has announced that they have successfully upgraded a jailbroken iPhone 3GS from OS 3.0 to 3.1 without losing the jailbreak. This means that there will probably be an update to the PwnageTool soon to support making a custom IPSW for upgrading the iPhone 3GS. We'll let you know as soon as it drops.
Proof that they upgraded a jailbroken 3GS:

This was released directly by a dev team member from their twitter page.
This is the dev team's page http://blog.iphone-dev.org/
There is a block of links to the right under TWITTER. CPICH posted this.
I, also, await an updated Windowz version. I miss the feature that changes the bootup picture.
There is no Windows version of PwnageTool it is a Mac OS X tool only, we are not developing a Windows version of PwnageTool.
That's the dev s answer to windows users. Bastards. As there's loads who updated through iTunes either through mistake or stupidity. And are now fucked as there's no way to jailbreak as they can't get there hands on a mac.
Complete balls.

3.1 to 3.0 jailbreak to 3.1 jailbreak
Mac OS 10.6.1
Pwnage Tool 3.1.3
I upgraded to 3.1. Why? For some reason, I thought I couldn't activate MMS unless I did. How many darned MMS have I sent? Not many. I missed the jailbroken world. Then, when Pwnage Tool 3.1.3 came out, I saw that I was boned. I tried to restore to a jailbroken .ipsw file I created. Got stuck in an endless loop of pain. So, I managed to conquer the 1604 error and moved back to 3.1.
THEN, I did some googling and found I could downgrade the firmware (but not the baseband) to 3.0. I did this by modifying my /hosts file and adding the ip address for gs.apple.com. And was able to downgrade to 3.0. Following the instructions, it took two tries, and still returned an error, but the phone was at 3.0. No phone service because of baseband mismatch, I suppose. Then, I jailbroke with redsn0w.
Then ran Pwnage Tool 3.1.3 and now have a jailbroken 3.1 device. Unlockable, because of baseband update (my fault), but overall very satisfactory.
