Many iPhone Owners Not Upgrading To iPhone 3.1, Says AdMob

AdMob, a firm that supplies advertising services targeting ad-supported iPhone adds, says that between September 15th and 22nd, only 23% of devices running apps with AdMob adds had updated to iPhone OS 3.1. Nonetheless, they say this is "significant update" compared to other releases. 51% of devices exposed to AdMob ads are still running OS 3.0, and 19% are still running v2.2.1, while 7% are still running v2.0 or earlier.

Not surprisingly, the likelihood of a user updating the OS is directly correlated to if it's an iPhone or iPod touch, as touch owners have had to pay for most major updates.

So, according to AdMob, there is absolutely no iPhone on any firmware between 2.0 and 2.2.1? Strange.

Anyways, I'm one of the 51% on 3.0, actually 3.0.1. I just can't give up my jailbreak and tethering hack.

i have to agree, im not giving up my jailrbreak for useless features

I'm also not going to bother upgrading to 3.1 as my 3g lacks the hardware encryption for my company's Exchange 2007 server and I don't want to lose access to all my email, calendar, and contacts. (D'oh!)

I never got that. If the 3G can do it on 3.0, then obviously it can do it on 3.1. Why did Apple stop it?

And I really want to be able save videos from email and MMS to my camera roll and save copies of trimmed videos instead of overwriting, but it's not enough. If Apple wanted us to update, they should have given us more.

well the problem is that 3.1 made the iphones talk to the exchamge servers properly about weather or not they have encryption and server side rules disable the 3g and origonal iphone from talking because they dont have encryption. but that is only if the server is requireing phone encryption the exchange access is broken.

I got that, but if it was working on 3.0, why make it not work with an update? If you could still get around it, unless it's another way for Apple to try to get you to upgrade.

what wou you expect apple to do rebreak the way the iphone talks to exchange so that it will no longer properly identify what it is and weather or not it support encryption so it lies to the server again

Um...yeah!

Rebreak? No. But why put effort into fixing a problem that no one wanted to be fixed?

I was getting really frustrated with 3.0.1 JB due to the lag time after button pushes, so I made the jump to 3.1. I do miss some of the JB software, but the quick button response was more than worth it.
