Apple Announces Winners Of Apple Design Awards For 2009

Apple has announced the winners of their Apple design Awards for 2009. The winners for iPhone apps are: Tweetie [$3.99 | App Store] from atebits, Topple 2 [$2.99 | App Store] from ngmoco:), MLB.com At Bat [$9.99 | App Store] from MLB.com, and Postage [$2.99 | App Store] by RougeSheep. The award for best iPhone Student App was given to Wooden Labyrinth 3D [$3.99 | App Store] by Elias Pietil. Best iPhone OS 3.0 Beta App went to Accuterra by Intermap Technologies. Congratulations to the winners!

TomTom For iPhone, Companion Car Kit Announced At WWDC

After countless months of anticipation, TomTom for iPhone, the first turn-by-turn GPS navigation application, was announced at WWDC on Monday. Last year, they announced that the app was in development, confirming it again months afterward, but Apple's SDK didn't allow it at the time. Now it will finally be available following the release of iphone OS 3.0 on the 17th.

iPhone 3G S Has New Oil-Repellent Screen Coating

Apple made a big deal about how the iPhone 3G S looks the same as the iPhone 3G on the outside, but it turns out that they did make one little hardware upgrade. Apple's "iPhone How To: Cleaning iPhone" page mentions a new oil-resistant coating on the iPhone 3G S's display.

Video: Wall Of Apps At WWDC

An installation at WWDC is attracting a lot of attention from attendees. In a display of unabashed mighty awesomeness, Apple has created a large, pulsating, Matrix-esque rainbow wall of iPhone apps consisting of several Cinema Displays. Each time one of the apps is purchased, it's icon on the wall pulses. Apparently it's not quite real-time, and it certainly doesn't show all of the 50,000+ apps in the App Store, but it's pretty spectacular. Video after the break.

Apple Announces iPhone 3G S Available June 19, Pre-Sale Starting Today

Confirming rumors and widespread speculation, Phil Schiller announced the iPhone 3G S today at their WWDC keynote. As anticipated, it has several new hardware features, including support for 7.2 HSDPA, a 3 megapixel camera, video functionality, voice commands, a faster processor and more.

The iPhone 3G S will be available in the US on June 19 at $199 for the 16GB and $299 for the 32GB. You can also pre-purchase your iPhone 3G S or reserve one at Apple.com.

Live WWDC Keynote Coverage Starts HERE 10 AM Pacific

The Mecca of Apple hardware and software development, WWDC, is scheduled to kick off at 10AM tomorrow morning with a keynote from Phil Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. Analyst Still Say Apple Launching Cut-Price iPhone Monday

With WWDC just days away, Financial Times reports that they are confident of the announcement of a "cut-price" version of the iPhone on Monday. They predict a price cut of either 50$ or 100$, which they say could stimulate their sales by as much as 100%, increasing their marketshare among web-capable mobile devices.

The banners are up in Moscone West for WWDC, six days before the event is scheduled to kick off, and the first photographs have been posted to Flickr, courtesy of Adam Jackson. The theme for this year would appear to be the App Store and the apps inside it.

Phil Schiller To Give WWDC 09 Keynote

Apple dashed the hopes of those hoping to see Steve Jobs at WWDC in a press release earlier this morning stating that Phil Schiller would be delivering the annual keynote. While perhaps disappointing, it's not at all surprising, given the fact that WWDC is scheduled for early June, and Steve said in his public letter, "I have decided to take a medical leave of absence until the end of June." Video: Apple Posts iPhone Developer Profiles

Apple has posted video interviews with four developers working with the iPhone SDK in anticipation of WWDC in June. In each one, the developers talk about how their experience of working with the tools and frameworks provided with the iPhone SDK to create their own unique applications and selling them in the App Store.
