Discovery Communications has released an official Discovery Channel app in the App Store today. The new app contains video excerpts from several Discovery Channel shows, a TV schedule showing air times for the various programs, links to purchase episodes in the iTunes app, and other goodies like quizzes and photo galleries.

AppleInsider says "people familiar with Apple's training program" tell them that new self-guided training materials are being distributed to AppleCare agents teaching them about the features in iPhone OS 3.0, and they "definitely covered" the direct downloading of movies and TV shows to the device itself.

TV.com App Streams Spock On Your iPhone

CBS has just launched a new app that lets users stream video from TV.com. The interactive app lets users watch full episodes of Dream On, Night Gallery, Star Trek and C.S.I right on their iPhones over either Wi-Fi or 3G. You can view channels, shows, or collect a group of your favorites. The app is available as a free download, but only in the U.S. App Store.

Livestation, a service claiming to be "Slingbox without the box," says they are working on an app that would let users watch live streaming TV programs on their iPhone or iPod touch. The service would let you view video being streamed to your computer from anywhere with an internet connection.

Patent: Add-On TV/Radio Reciever For iPhone, iPod

A new Apple patent application has been found that shows that Apple may be looking to either build or support a hardware add-on for the iPhone and iPod lines that would allow it to directly receive streaming Radio and/or TV. The device pictured in the patent would attach directly to an iPod or iPhone, and would accept signals from one or more formats, including AM, FM, HD or satellite radio, or TV standards such as cable, satellite, over-the-air or IPTV.
