Apple: iPhone 3G S Sales Over 1 Million In First 3 Days

Apple has announced that in the first weekend of being on sale, the iPhone 3G S has sold over one million units. They also note that six million of their customers downloaded the free iPhone OS 3.0 software within the first five days of it's release. Notably, the announcement includes a statement from Steve Jobs.

3G S Sales Beating Last Year's 3G Launch Day

Despite what would seem to be far shorter lines, O2 UK has revealed that as of noon local time they have already sold more iPhone 3G S handsets than they did for the entire day of the iPhone 3G launch last year. By the end of the day, they estimate sales to be 50% more than last year. Meanwhile, AT&T says they have pre-sold "hundreds of thousands" of the devices prior to today, leading AppleInsider to speculate that they could easily sell more than a million of them in just the first three days.

Pinch Media On Lifespan Of Apps, Ads vs. Paid Models

According to information gathered by mobile research group Pinch Media, the average free app downloaded from the App Store has a less than 5% chance of being used for greater than 30 days after it was first downloaded. The group collected information from more than 30 million app downloads that they tracked as part of their analytics services they provide to developers, and the trends they found were pretty surprising.

iPhone 3G Causes Growth For AT&T Despite Bad Economy

AT&T announced today that despite the poor state the economy is in, the iPhone and iPhone 3G has continued to drive growth in company by drawing in new high-profit subscribers to their 2 year contracts. The company says they have activated .9 million new iPhones during the quarter, less than the previous 2.4mil for Q3, but still played a significant role.

Rumor: Costco To Sell $149 iPhone 3Gs In January?

Author and analyst Trip Chowdry is saying that Apple may begin selling iPhone 3Gs through U.S. retail chain Costco for $149 starting in January of next year. We don't have his report, but it's been noted that it mentions the bleak economic outlook and it's negative effect on the tech industry.

Now a study by NPD Group finds that during Q3 this year the mighty Motorola king was finally dethroned and replaced by the Appleocracy that is the iPhone.

Apple Production Cut Confirmed

UBS analyst Maynard Um corroborated claims from earlier this week that Apple would be cutting their production. Friedman Billings Ramsey analyst Craig Berger stated that Apple would be cutting their iPhone 3G production by a 40%. Now Um has found evidence in the supply chain that iPhone levels are down by 1.7 million to 2.3 million.

SingTel Reports 170k 3G Sales, Subsidies Digging Into Earnings

SingTel, the official iPhone carrier in Singapore, Australia, and the Philippines and India, has announced that they have sold 170,000 iPhones since they launched the handset in early July and late August in their respective countries. Not all the news is good, however. They're claiming now that the heavy subsidies they're providing are really starting to dig into their profits.

Analyst: Apple To Cut iPhone 3G Production By 40%

According to a report by Craig Berger, analyst with Friedman Billings Ramsey, Apple has cut their Q4 production of the iPhone 3G by more than was anticipated. Onlookers were expecting them to cut production by around 10% as a sequential production drop, but Berger claims Apple may cut it by "more than 40%" than their Q3 numbers.

Apple Rises To #6 US Phone Supplier, Growth Driven By Low-Income Households

Growing iPhone sales have placed Apple among the top ten cellphone suppliers in the US, moving to the number six spot, bumping RIM off the bottom of the list. The company snatched 2.3% market share in Q3. Surprisingly, despite the apparent oncoming economic downturn, much of the sales seen during the quarter came from low-inome households.
