Loopt Strikes Deal With AT&T For Location Information

Loopt has struck a deal with AT&T to allow them (with your permission) to pull location information from your device. Rather than run in the background on your device, Loopt gets location information from AT&T's servers. According to Loopt cofounder and CEO Sam Altman, it's the most requested feature for the app.

Loopt SMS Spam Issue Fixed

Earlier this week we mentioned that Loopt, the location-aware social network app for the iPhone, had been causing some users a little trouble by sending their phone contacts SMS messages inviting them to the service, and they weren't aware of why. The people at Loopt have been kind enough to let us know that they have since fixed the issue.

Loopt App Spams Your Contacts Via SMS

While the majority of complaints about apps so far have been regarding minor technical problems like occasional crashing, one application hasn't been so harmless. Loopt, one of the most publicized applications in the app store, goes through your list of contacts and automatically spams all of them with an SMS invite to everyone on your contacts list, without so much as notifying you that it would be doing so, or asking permission, as soon as you start the app.
