iTunes 8

Alongside the announcement of a redesigned iPod shuffle today, Apple has quietly announced iTunes 8.1. According to iTunes' "What's New" page, iTunes 8.1 will feature speed improvements, the ability to use "Autofill" on any manually managed iPod or iPhone, and an "Import as iTunes Plus" option. Additionally, several screenshots indicate that "Party Shuffle" has been renamed to "iTunes DJ."

Apple's Remote app [App Store] for the iPhone and iPod touch has also been updated to version 1.2 in order to add iTunes DJ support for iTunes 8.1.

Not satisfied with the previous version, Apple has decided that rather than simply release an update, they have re-released iTunes 8 for Windows. The move follows numerous complaints from Windows Vista users who reported getting consistent blue screen of death errors when connecting an iPod or iPhone to iTunes.

While the Dev Team asserts that there is nothing Apple can do short of changing their hardware to remove the bug exploited by their Pwnage Tool, they did try in iTunes 8. The team wrote in their blog today that the new iTunes software will detect when a Pwnage exploit is taking place and prevents it from going through.

At their "Let's Rock" event in San Francisco, Apple introduced a new version of iTunes, version 8.0, complete with new features, HD TV shows, and the return of NBC shows. Included in the release is an entirely new feature called "Genius" which recommends songs based on songs you already own. A new "grid" view has also been added which allows you to look at your library arranged in a grid and sorted however you choose.

Some guy is saying that he was able to download a leaked release candidate for iTunes 8 due to a crazy glitch that involved a download button being rendered in an odd spot on Apple's webpage. His story is that he clicked said crazy glitch button and it downloaded an unreleased copy of the iTunes software.
