2.1 Update Causes GPS Issues, Fix Found

Quite a few users have been reporting issues with GPS with the new 2.1 software update in the Apple Discussions. While it seems to have fixed the bulk of most users' problems like poor reception and frequent crashes, it may have created issues with location services.

2.1 Software Update Released [Updated With Changes]

Time to update those iPhones, everybody! Just as Steve promised, Software update 2.1 has been released. According to the Jobs, the update should solve most of the problems users have been having with the 2.x software so far, including crashing and poor reception quality.

Automatic Secure Wipe Preference Screen Found In 2.1 iPod Touch

iPhone Alley reader Felipe recently told us about a new security feature in the 2.1 software on the new iPod that lets the user set the device to automatically wipe it's drive completely after the passcode fails 10 times. A preference screen titled "Passcode Lock" was found, with an "Erase Data" switch that will cause it to "Erase all data on this iPod after 10 failed passcode attempts".

Apple Seeds 2.1 Beta #2 To Developers

No more than a week after the first beta of firmware version 2.1 being seeded to developers, Apple has seeded a second beta version. The new version reportedly fixes several bugs in the previous version. It also makes mention of the highly anticipated push notification service.

The 2.1 firmware has already been seeded to developers, and rumors have been going around about new features hinted at in the software, like turn-by-turn GPS among other things. Now a new clue has been found that may show Apple is gearing up to release a revision of their iPod touch line.

2.1 Update To Have Copy Paste Functions?

We heard rumors yesterday that Apple had seeded iPhone 2.1 firmware to developers. Speculation at the time was that the software would include more than just a software update, because it was version 2.1 rather than 2.0.1. Now MacNN says they have information from one of the developers that one of the new features being added is none other than the copy and paste functions everyone's been waiting for.
