RiP Dev also released their final version of their third-party app installation tool, Installer 4.0. In the final version, they have "added Greek, Russian and Ukranian localizations, redone the interface for speed, fixed a bunch of bugs and made it so it can bear the tag "4.0". And yes, we're proud of what we have done -- largely with your feedback."

A new version of the Installer 4 beta has been released by RiP Dev and is available for download. Version 4.0v11 adds several features and bug fixes, including a new 'Update All' button for the updated category, scrollable package information, and an easier to use 'More Info' button. Earlier this weekend, the Big Boss repository, one of the larger and more well-known repositories in Cydia and Installer, parted ways with their hosting site, iphone.sleepers.net. The repository owner said in this weekend's announcement that they weren't happy with the partnership, and had officially moved over to http://thebigboss.org/.

A while back, Qik announced that they had begun private beta testing of their live streaming app for the iPhone. The app worked for the most part in its beta form, although it was only available to a select few (we had a chance to play with it). Thankfully, Qik has just announced that the application will be released to the public via Installer.app, with one fairly significant caveat. Although we'll be getting Installer for iPhone 2.0, the Qik app isn't ready for 2.0, which means it only works on phones loaded with 1.1.4.

A beta version of Installer 4 that was seeded to repository owners was leaked this weekend, releasing the alternative app source to the iPhone-hacking community. The new version has been highly anticipated, as it will be the first to run on the 2.0 software, meaning it will run along side the App Store.

RiPDev, the people working on Installer.app, have posted a progress report on their blog complete with pictures of the upcoming version #4 of their alternative to the official App Store. The crew says that they're in the last stages of connecting the GUI to the back-end of the tool. In the meantime, here are some screenshots:

Those waiting for 3rd party unofficial apps on their iPhone running the 2.0 software will be happy to hear that progress is being made on getting Installer.app 4 working. People close to the project claim that the unofficial software utility is nearing completion. Currently they say that they are currently working on connecting a revamped graphical interface to the functional component of the software. When this is completed, repository authors will be asked to come on board for testing.
