Clippy Is Closest Thing To Native Copy And Paste Yet, Still Jailbreak-Only

Yet another third party attempt at a copy and paste solution for the iPhone has been launched that takes copy and paste one step further toward a usable state. Clippy, made by developer Ryan Petrich, is an add-on for the iPhone's virtual keyboard that lets you do true copy and paste with Apple's apps like Notes, Mail and SMS, as well as a few third party ones. Clippy is available for jailbroken iPhones and iPod Touches through Cydia.

AT&T Surveys Users On Requested iPhone Features

AT&T is back with another customer survey, and it may be the most useful survey of theirs yet. This time they're asking iPhone and iPhone 3G owners what features they would like to see added to the iPhone in the future. For the most part, it seems to be a follow-up to a survey done not long after the iPhone 3G's US launch.

CopierciN Offers Stopgap Copy/Paste Solution For Jailbroken iPhones

The latest attempt at a copy/paste solution for the iPhone popped up on Cydia recently in the form of CopierciN. The app is jailbreak only and combines the concept of a text editor and a snippet importer/exporter. Using the app, you can import text from SMS, Notes, or Email. Text can then be opened, edited in the built-in text editor, and then exported as a new SMS, Email, Note, or just a file.

2.1 Software Breaks OpenClip Framework

Zak White's open-source copy and paste framework OpenClip was a very ingenious solution to what seemed like an impossible problem, but as great as it would be to finally have copy and paste for at least some apps, it has been found that OpenClip's inevitable drawback keeps it from working in the upcoming 2.1 firmware update.

OpenClip Gives Copy/Paste To 3rd Party iPhone Apps

We've been waiting for copy and paste on the iPhone for a long, long time, but despite our pleas, Apple still says that it's not at the top of their list of priorities. In the meantime, a very creative college student by the name of Zak White has created his own alternative that looks to be the first viable copy/paste solution between multiple apps that doesn't interfere with Apple's SDK.

MagicPad Text Editor Brings Copy/Paste To iPhone (Sort Of)

Apple has yet to offer a viable system-wide copy/paste solution on the iPhone, but Proximi has decided to get as close as they can. Their app, MacicPad, was just made available in the Apple Store. It's a rich text editor for the iPhone and iPod touch that has the addition of one highly requested feature: copy and paste. It doesn't work system-wide, so you can only copy and paste notes from one point in the device to another, but it's a start.

Apple Seeds 2.1 Beta #2 To Developers

No more than a week after the first beta of firmware version 2.1 being seeded to developers, Apple has seeded a second beta version. The new version reportedly fixes several bugs in the previous version. It also makes mention of the highly anticipated push notification service.

2.1 Update To Have Copy Paste Functions?

We heard rumors yesterday that Apple had seeded iPhone 2.1 firmware to developers. Speculation at the time was that the software would include more than just a software update, because it was version 2.1 rather than 2.0.1. Now MacNN says they have information from one of the developers that one of the new features being added is none other than the copy and paste functions everyone's been waiting for.
